POSITION SUMMARY
The Seasonal Bylaw Officer supports Municipal Enforcement operations during peak tourism periods by promoting and enforcing compliance with Town of Drumheller bylaws. Primary responsibilities include monitoring paid parking areas, educating visitors, issuing enforcement actions when required, and assisting full‑time officers with animal control and Community Standards Bylaw enforcement. The role enhances community safety and visitor experience through proactive presence, professional communication, and consistent application of municipal regulations.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Conduct routine patrols of paid parking lots to monitor compliance.
- Educate visitors on parking regulations, payment requirements and local bylaws.
- Issue warnings or enforcement actions in accordance with established procedures to ensure general compliance.
- Identify and report traffic patterns, signage concerns, and notable issues to the Director.
- Support the enforcement of the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw and Community Standards Bylaw during peak periods.
- Collaborate with Community Peace Officers and maintain a strong working knowledge of municipal bylaws and enforcement practices.
- Provide clear, professional information to residents, businesses and visitors.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with coworkers, stakeholders, and community members.
- Promote safety, compliance and respectful conduct in public spaces.
- Conduct routine foot patrols in municipal parks and high‑traffic tourist areas to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
- Prioritize personal and public safety during all enforcement activities.
- Prepare accurate daily notes, reports, and documentation.
- Safely transport Town funds to financial institutions when required.
- Always represent the Town with professionalism and integrity.
- Provide constructive feedback and recommendations to the Director regarding enforcement trends and operational improvements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma (Grade 12) required.
- Post‑secondary education (two‑year diploma or four‑year degree) in Criminal Justice, Justice Studies, Political Science, Conflict Management, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with satisfactory ten (10) year Driver’s abstract.
- Minimum two (2) years of customer service or security-related experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, judgement, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to interpret and apply municipal bylaws and related legislation.
- Must submit to a Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sectors.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with well‑developed reasoning, de‑escalation, and conflict‑resolution abilities.
- Works effectively with variable workloads, producing timely and accurate documentation.
- Able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work unsupervised.

Hours per Week: Approx. 40 hours FTE
Compensation: $25.72 (Local CUPE 4604)
