Career Advisor/Peer Support Facilitator

Duties:

  • Conduct in-depth client intakes, employability assessments, and develop individualized action plans to support realistic  employment goals
  • Assist clients with resume writing, cover letters, job search strategies, career exploration, and career planning
  • Identify barriers to employment and support clients in developing strategies to overcome challenges related to employment  and life circumstances
  • Provide one-on-one career counselling and ongoing employment support to clients
  • Facilitate weekly peer support groups focused on life skills, employability skills, and career development
  • Encourage and support clients in building  peer-based support networks and job search networks through group participation
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful group environment that promotes engagement, participation, and collaboration
  • Facilitate group discussions on workplace  readiness, communication skills, confidence building, stress management, goal setting, and healthy relationships
  • Support clients in developing networking skills and connecting with employment, volunteer, and community opportunities
  • Foster motivation, self-confidence, and independence among participants
  • Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, employers, service providers, and referral agencies
  • Provide referrals to appropriate community resources and support services as needed
  • Maintain accurate client records, case notes, and reporting requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community programming and resources

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary Certificate or Diploma in Human Services or a related field
  • Experience in employment counselling, or group facilitation is considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to engage, motivate, coach, and support individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to facilitate group discussions in a supportive and inclusive manner
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of employment services, life skills programming, and community supports considered an asset
  • Demonstrated belief in client-centered practice and the importance of community participation and inclusion
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable transportation may be required
  • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required
