Job Summary:
The Museum Cleaner is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the museum premises, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for visitors and staff. This role involves cleaning and caring for various areas within the museum, including exhibition spaces, galleries, restrooms, and administrative offices, while respecting the integrity of the museum's collections and exhibits.
Key Responsibilities:
1. General Cleaning:
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in public areas, galleries, and behind exhibits.
- Dust and wipe down surfaces, including display cases, furniture, and fixtures, ensuring that exhibits are not damaged.
- Clean restrooms and replenish supplies as needed, maintaining high standards of hygiene.
- Empty trash bins and recycle containers, ensuring proper disposal of waste.
2. Specialized Care:
- Follow specific cleaning protocols for delicate artifacts and exhibits to prevent damage.
- Utilize appropriate cleaning materials and techniques suitable for different surfaces and items.
3. Maintenance Support:
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of exhibition spaces and events, including cleaning before and after.
- Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the Facilities Manager promptly.
4. Health and Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to health and safety standards in all cleaning practices.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE)where necessary and follow all safety guidelines.
5. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with museum staff to support special events, exhibitions, and programs.
- Communicate effectively with team members regarding cleaning schedules and priorities.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in cleaning or janitorial services, preferably in a museum, gallery, or similar environment.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Good physical stamina and ability to lift and move objects as needed.
- Basic communication skills and a willingness to cooperate with team members.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to work flexible hours,including weekends and holidays, as necessary.
