POSITION SUMMARY

The Aquaplex Shift Supervisor I is responsible for overseeing daily Aquaplex operations and providing leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to frontline aquatic staff. Reporting to the Aquatic Supervisor or designate, this position serves as the first point of contact for staff and facility users, ensuring the safe, efficient, clean, and fun operation of all aquatic programs and services in accordance with Town, departmental, and facility policies and procedures. Responsibilities include supervising lifeguards and instructors, supporting the delivery of aquatic programs, including advanced courses, performing lifeguarding duties, responding to patron needs, and completing general facility maintenance tasks to uphold a safe and welcoming environment.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide on‑shift supervision, leadership, and technical guidance to aquatic staff, ensuring adequate coverage, proper rotations, and adherence to safety and operational standards.
  • Monitor patron activities, enforce facility rules, promote safe behavior, and perform prevention, rescue, and first aid responses as required.
  • Deliver lifeguarding services and instruct aquatic programs, including advanced courses, support program planning, lesson development, participant evaluation, and new initiative implementation.
  • Conduct water quality testing, adjust pool chemistry, maintain filtration systems, and ensure scheduled cleanings are completed.
  • Participate in and perform facility cleaning and routine maintenance to uphold safety, cleanliness, and readiness standards.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for staff and patrons; provide high‑quality customer service, respond to inquiries, and process payments for admissions and programs.
  • Monitor chemical and supply inventories; record information accurately and report needs promptly.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training; provide performance feedback to the Aquatic Supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with Town policies, OH&S legislation, and best practices for records, correspondence, confidentiality, and safety.
  • Represent the Town professionally in all interactions and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a post‑secondary education in recreation or a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a lifeguard and/or aquatic instructor is required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Intermediate First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
  • Current swim instructor (SI), National Lifeguard (NL) and Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) certifications are required.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain within 6 Months of hire: WHMIS, Pool Operator Level 1 or equivalent.
  • Trained Aquatic Fitness Instructors will be given preference.

Hours per Week:                      Approx. 40 FTE
Compensation:                         $25.78 - $31.78
