The Town of Drumheller has received grant funding to support a new initiative focusing on the growth of Sport Tourism for the Valley. This is currently a 4-month term position, with the possibility of extension with further grant funding.
The Sport Tourism Coordinator position is responsible for promoting "sport tourism" in Drumheller Valley and the coordination of hosting sporting events and tournaments. This involves fostering strong collaborations with external entities such as educational institutions, community clubs, and external organizations/leagues to establish lasting partnerships through which will make Drumheller a destination of choice for sport tourism opportunities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Promotion of the Town of Drumheller as a sport tourism destination to tournament organizers, sport organizations, businesses, and relevant organizations.
- Working to secure sport events to be hosted in Drumheller and collaborating with neighboring communities.
- Providing oversight of the maintenance and preparatory upkeep of sports facilities before, during and after and event, ensuring strict compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards to maintain optimal operational readiness.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with local sports groups, businesses, neighboring communities, restaurants, and hotels to enhance collaboration.
- Participating in emergency responses and providing first aid when necessary.
- Coordinating and supporting budgeting, fundraising, and sponsorship activities for sports tourism initiatives.
- Collaborating with internal departments to establish and manage a social media presence that promotes Drumheller as a sports tourism destination.
- Coordinating the training and oversight of volunteers/part-time staff during sporting events.
- Collaborating with the Recreation Arts and Culture (RAC) team on various projects, events, and administrative tasks.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Two (2) year community college diploma in tourism, sport business management, recreation & leisure, event management, business administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Two (2) years relevant events planning experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in social media content development.
- Demonstrating a prominent level of knowledge in sports and diversity within sports.
- Proficient in MS Suite applications.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Knowledge of the principals and processes for providing excellent customer services.
- Strong verbal & written communication skills.
- Works effectively with variable workloads, producing timely and accurate documentation.
- Strong interpersonal skills including superior tact, judgment, problem-solving skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Performs all duties with a minimum of supervision.
- Able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Valid First Aid and CPR, or ability to attain prior to hire.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Must be able to submit to a Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sectors upon hire
- Knowledge of, or familiarity with, downtown businesses, community organizations, groups and volunteer activities an asset.
Employment Category: Temporary Full-Time
Hours per Week: 37.5 hours
Pay Scale: $24.58 to $30.20/ hour based on CUPE 4604 Collective Agreement
