POSITION SUMMARY
The Student Labourer is responsible for performing a wide variety of manual labour duties to support the maintenance, repair, and operation of municipal infrastructure, facilities, and public spaces. This role contributes to the overall safety, cleanliness, and functionality of the community through hands-on work in areas such as roads and sidewalks, water and sewer systems, parks and green spaces, solid waste operations, and public works facilities.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Grounds maintenance at the Town’s various parks, boulevards and green areas including weeding, flower planting, raking, etc.
- Assist in set up of tables, chairs, portable stages for Town and community special events.
- Refuse pickup at Town’ receptacles and picking of litter on Town owned or maintained properties.
- Assist with maintaining irrigation system and watering schedules.
- Assist Utility Operators in monthly water utility meter reading.
- Assist with landscaping and beautification projects.
- Operation of small tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform asphalt/concrete repairs, crack sealing, and paving to streets and sidewalks.
- Assist in the repair, maintenance and construction of water and sewer lines.
- Clean snow from Town sidewalks and around Town facilities.
- Clean and general upkeep of vehicles and equipment.
- Assist with the installation and removal of traffic control devices and road markings.
- May be required to assume On-call duties on a rotational basis.
- Operate light vehicles up to 10,000 lbs GVW, and light equipment including light duty tractors and mowers such as the model JD1600 mower or similar.
- Familiar with and adheres to the Town of Drumheller’s safety policy and relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
- Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 16 years of age and have completed Grade 10. Preference will be given to those with a Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License, with the ability to produce 10-year drivers abstract.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Perform all duties under minimal supervision and work effectively with variable workloads.
- Must be able to read and write English and be able to understand written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to document events and generate basic reports as needed.
- Able to competently and safely use light hand tools.
- Able to perform heavy manual labor in all types of conditions (i.e. wind, rain, cold, snow, heat etc.)
- Knowledge of irrigation systems is considered an asset.

Hours per Week: Approx. 40 hours FTE
Compensation: $22.00
