Communications Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general oversight of the Communications Officer, this position will support the Communications Department with short-term communications and marketing initiatives while providing administrative support to the team.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assists with the implementation of summer communications initiatives.
- Assists as a content creator for multiple departments through social media, website updates, and other communication channels.
- Assists in the development and implementation of municipal project marketing plans.
- Provides administrative support including drafting reports, correspondence, project summaries and presentations.
- Assists in the processing of municipal communication and advertising requests.
- Assists with internal communications planning and publishing, including staff newsletters, intranet updates and key messages.
- Consistently applies attention to detail and proofreads outgoing messaging to ensure completeness.
- Completion of other tasks, projects, and responsibilities within the scope of the position, as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Candidates possessing or pursuing a post-secondary education in communications, marketing, business, or a related field will be given preference.
- Experience with social media coordination and content creation.
- Class 5 Driver’s Licence, with the ability to provide a satisfactory 10-Year Driver's Abstract.
- Ability to provide an acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Basic graphic design and photography skills are considered an asset.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Adobe and Canva would be considered an asset.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision with a desire and ability to learn while in their role.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
- Ability to represent the Town and Department in a competent, professional manner.
Employment Category: Temporary (Summer Seasonal)
Hours per Week: 37.5 (Monday to Friday)
Compensation: $24.95
