Coordinator Financial Services - Accountant III

Permanent Full Time Position Available

  • Annual Salary at $70,146 - $98,091 depending upon experience, training and education
  • 36.25-hour workday (Monday through Friday) – Overtime will be required during peak periods of operation

Workplace – Special Areas Board Office Located in Hanna, AB

Travel within all of Special Areas is required.

The Coordinator of Financial Services is a supervisory leadership role within the Special Areas Board, responsible for overseeing key financial operations while fostering a high-performing team environment. This position requires a strategic and detail-oriented professional with strong financial expertise and a passion for developing others. The Coordinator provides guidance, mentorship, and performance management to financial staff, promoting continuous learning and leadership growth. Additionally, the Coordinator works closely with other departments to ensure financial accuracy and contribute to organizational success. This role includes regular reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, ensuring alignment with broader financial strategies and organizational objectives. Description:

Responsibilities include:

  • Financial Planning and Budgeting: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and monitor the annual budget; assist in long-term financial planning and sustainability strategies.
  • Accounting and Reporting: Ensure accurate financial transaction recording, maintain general ledger, and prepare financial statements and reports for management and external stakeholders.
  • Grants and Funding Management: Identify and apply for funding opportunities; monitor and report on grant usage, ensuring compliance.
  • Financial Analysis and Forecasting: Provide financial analysis, insights, and forecasts to support strategic decision-making.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure financial compliance with regulations; assess and mitigate financial risks; collaborate with auditors during financial audits.
  • Asset Management: Assist in managing capital assets and investments, maintaining asset records.
  • Team Management: Supervise and guide finance staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment; conduct performance evaluations and promote staff development.
  • Health and Safety: Adhere to the Special Areas Board Health and Safety Program; ensure staff compliance with OH&S regulations.
  • Confidentiality and Customer Service: Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and uphold a proactive customer service philosophy.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 12, with an accredited post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. A professional accounting designation is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in financial management or accounting, preferably in a public sector setting. A combination of relevant education, skills, and experience will be considered.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, financial regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.
  • Above average proficiency in financial software, spreadsheets (Excel), and accounting systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, tact and discretion in dealing with requests, complaints and clarification of information; proven ability to use good judgement to interpret, analyze and modify methods and procedures with stakeholders at all levels.
