POSITION SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, this position provides technical and administrative support for safety codes, development and planning. Primarily responsible for the end-to-end administration for Safety Codes and Short-Term Rental (STR) business licenses, this position will also support the Economic Development Team with the review of development applications, reviewing and recommending changes to Municipal Development Plan (MDP), Land Use Bylaw (LUB) and Area Strategic Plan (ASP) as well as support for new projects associated with the Town’s housing initiative.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Administers Safety Codes permits from application to closure, including customer service, application intake and review, permit issuance, payment processing, records management, data entry, and file retention.
  • Ensures compliance with the Quality Management Plan (QMP) through review and verification of invoices for closed permits.
  • Administers Short‑Term Rental (STR) agreements, including application intake and review for compliance with safety requirements, permit issuance, payment processing, documentation, and system entry.
  • Administers Mobile Business permits, including application intake and review for safety compliance, permit issuance, payment processing, documentation, and system entry.
  • Receives and conducts preliminary reviews of development permit applications for completeness and directs submissions to appropriate staff for approval.
  • Enters Development Permits into applicable databases and communicates Safety Codes permit requirements as needed.
  • Maintains, organizes, and distributes Orders, Variances, and Hazardous Situation documentation.
  • Provides administrative and filing support to the department and maintains and updates Land Files.
  • Collects, maintains, and reports statistical data for record‑keeping and reporting purposes.
  • Maintains financial records and prepares daily and monthly reports.
  • Provides administrative support for Housing Initiative projects, as required.
  • Acts as backup support for Business Licensing functions.
  • Supports internal and external audits as needed.
  • Complies with the Town’s safety policies and applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Performs other related duties in accordance with Town policies and standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post‑secondary education with a focus in Accounting, Business Administration, Local Government, or Applied Land Use Planning certificate, or an equivalent program from a recognized college or university.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in land use, planning, or development within a municipal environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimal supervision while managing assigned responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possesses familiarity with municipal and provincial legislation and municipal governance practices, including Council procedures, the Access to Information Act (ATIA), and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and variable workloads while meeting established deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with or training in GIS, AutoCAD, and/or ArcView is considered an asset.
  • Completion of the Safety Codes Council Permit Issuer’s Course, or the ability to successfully complete the course within the first six (6) months of employment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check and a ten (10) year driver’s abstract.

Employment Category:           Contract (Anticipated 12 Months)
Hours per Week:                      37.5 hours (Monday to Friday)
Compensation:                        $29.88 / Hour
