As a Gardener with the Town of Drumheller, you will play a key role in maintaining parks, gardens, boulevards, and other public spaces that contribute to the community's appearance and quality of life. From planting and pruning to irrigation maintenance and landscape care, your work will contribute to vibrant parks, beautiful gardens, and welcoming public spaces across the valley.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Horticultural Maintenance: Plant, prune, cultivate, water, weed, and fertilize flowers, trees, shrubs, and landscaped areas to support healthy and attractive municipal green spaces.
  • Plant Health Management: Identify plant diseases, pests, and other landscape issues while applying appropriate horticultural practices to maintain plant health and vitality.
  • Soil & Growing Conditions: Support plant growth through proper soil preparation, fertilization, and ongoing maintenance practices.
  • Irrigation Systems: Operate, monitor, and maintain parks irrigation systems to ensure the effective watering and sustainability of municipal landscapes.
  • Landscape Equipment Operation: Safely operate and maintain landscaping equipment including lawn mowers, string trimmers, hedge cutters, leaf blowers, small tractors, and other related tools.
  • Safety & Collaboration: Perform work safely in all weather conditions, contribute to team objectives, and participate in training and development opportunities as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

Completion of a (2) year College Diploma in Horticulture or related discipline. Two (2) years of horticultural experience performing duties related to the above-mentioned responsibilities. three (3) years preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Interior and Outdoor Plant Exterminator certification.

Pesticide and Pest management certification would be an asset.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Must be Bendable
  • General knowledge of propagation and growing techniques
  • The ability to identify various plants, understand plant needs and familiarity with landscape design and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of parks and horticulture and irrigation operating systems (thorough knowledge is preferred);
  • Ability to operate a variety of related equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a physically demanding environment, in all weather conditions, including the ability to lift up to 25 kg.;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Experience working with computer programs in a Windows environment;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others and explain work processes and procedures;
  • Safety conscious mindset;
  • Ability to obtain additional training, permits, certifications or licenses as required
  • Valid Driver's License;
  • A current and clear Police Information check is required.

The Gardener participates in an on-call rotation.

Pay: From $32.32 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
