SUMMER STUDENT POSITIONS - Weed Inspectors
Term Seasonal Summer Agriculture Service Board Positions Available for 2025
- Hourly rates starting at $22.7341 - $26.7731 depending upon experience and education
- In addition to the hourly rate of pay, earnings include
- 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings as holiday pay
- 6 percent of regular wage earnings as annual vacation pay
- 40-hour work week (Monday through Friday) – overtime may be expected as part of this role
Workplace: Special Areas 2, 3 and 4 (Hanna, Jenner, Consort, Oyen and Red Deer River)

Description: Key Duties will include:
- Weed inspection and weed/brush control, including chemical control,
- Promotion of soil conservation and agricultural pest surveys with producers,
- Providing information and addressing concerns from ratepayers,
- Providing clear analysis and reporting on weed control activities, and
- Maintaining, repairing, and delivering rental equipment
- Delivering the Special Areas Safety Program and all reporting requirements
- Other duties as required
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education (farming/agricultural program preferred)
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Boater’s licence (or ability to get) for Red Deer River applicants
- Physical capabilities to perform job duties - required lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. backpack sprayers and have a mechanical aptitude
- Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, tact and discretion and use good judgement
Preference may be given to candidates possessing:
- Pesticide Applicators Licence (Ag/Industrial/Landscape)
- Class 3 AB Drivers Licence – Air Endorsement
- Ability to operate tandem and single axle spray trucks, Backpack Sprayers, and related A.S.B equipment
Important Considerations for Applicants
- These are designated safety sensitive positions and mandatory pre-employment drug testing will be conducted on all newly hired employees
- These positions will be working outside completing fieldwork in rural-remote areas
