The Special Areas Board is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Water Services Technician to support the provision of high-quality water services. This role involves water treatment, distribution, testing, and reporting, as well as infrastructure maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance with safety standards. The successful candidate thrives in a busy, dynamic, and varied work environment and is comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously. Able to work independently while supporting team objectives, the successful candidate enjoys solving problems while delivering excellent service to ratepayers throughout the Special Areas.
Description: Responsibilities include:
- Water Operations: Support the effective provision of water-related services, including water treatment, distribution, testing, reporting, and regulatory approval applications.
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of water and sewer lines; operating equipment for water line repairs and landscaping restoration.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Collect and analyze GPS data to support map production and infrastructure planning.
- Site & Equipment Operations: Assist with water hauling, site maintenance, and operation of industry tools and machinery.
- System Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Monitor and troubleshoot data related to SCADA system reporting to ensure operational efficiency.
- Safety & Compliance: Lead by example in workplace safety, conducting safety meetings and enforcing compliance with the Special Areas Safety Program and policies.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- Alberta Environment Class I Certificate of Qualification in water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection is desirable; applicants without this certification will be considered.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience related to water treatment, plumbing, or irrigation systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally using courtesy, tact, and discretion when addressing requests, complaints, and clarifications.
- Proven judgment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze, interpret, and modify methods and procedures as needed.
- Physical capability to perform job duties, including heavy lifting.
- Intermediate computer skills, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
