Construction Supervisor - Foreman V

Permanent Full Time Position Available

  • Annual Salary at $81,220 - $98,954 depending upon experience, training and education
  • 8-hour workday (Monday through Friday) – Overtime may be required

Workplace - Youngstown Service Centre - Special Areas Board operates a Youngstown Service Centre consisting of nineteen (19) equipment bays - maintains over 300 pieces of equipment.

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Construction Supervisor to join our team, reporting to the Superintendent, Road and Equipment. This role is responsible for preparing detailed project packages and overseeing the planning, direction, and execution of multiple road construction and related maintenance projects and programs.

Key responsibilities include managing construction crews, the Recrown crew, and Back Trail Repair, as well as assisting with scheduling for the Recycled Asphalt Program (RAP). This position works closely with the Maintenance and Surfacing Supervisors to coordinate daily equipment and trucking operations. Regular site visits and inspections ensure projects are required to meet Special Areas Board (SAB) standards.

Key Responsibilities will Include:

  • Supervision of Special Areas Road Construction (Earthwork) – Responsible for planning, management, and direct supervision of road construction crews. Oversee scheduling and workflow of construction crews in coordination with the Superintendent of Roads and Equipment to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Gravel Resource Management – Assist the Superintendent of Roads and Equipment in managing gravel resources. Oversee pit reclamation, pit stripping, and research coordination to ensure long-term sustainability and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Equipment Operation, Maintenance, and Record-Keeping – Ensure crew foremen provide proper instruction to operators on equipment use and standard maintenance procedures. Emphasize record-keeping for preventative maintenance, operator competency tracking, and equipment inspections.
  • Administrative, Safety, and Compliance Responsibilities – Ensure time sheets, and Equipment Time Entry (ETE) sheets are completed and approved. Confirm foremen submit safety documentation, incident investigation reports, and site safety documents as required.
  • Central Repair Facility Responsibilities – Provide direct supervision of earthwork foremen during the winter months. Support off-season equipment maintenance, repair planning, and operational readiness for the next construction season.

Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or GED equivalent combined with a certificate/diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (CET), Construction Management, or a related field is preferred. A combination of related training experience and education will be considered
  • Five (5) years of progressive supervisory experience in road construction, or a related industry
  • Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, tact and discretion in dealing with requests, complaints and clarification of information; proven ability to use good judgement to interpret, analyze and modify methods and procedures.
  • Physical capability to perform the job duties required – lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Intermediate computer skills with average working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
