Term Wage Part Time Position Available from April 2025 to October 2025
- Hourly rates starting at $23.6988 - $42.3673 depending upon experience and education
- In addition to the hourly rate of pay, earnings include
- 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings as holiday pay
- 6 percent of regular wage earnings as annual vacation pay
- 24-hour work week dependent on survey requirements
Workplace: Special Areas 2, Hanna District Office
The Special Areas Board is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Survey Technician to support survey operations for land management, construction projects, and infrastructure maintenance. Reporting to the Director, Municipal Services, this position is responsible for data collection, equipment setup, and documentation to ensure accurate and efficient survey processes. The successful candidate will work independently in the field, stake out work sites, and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
Description: Key Duties will include:
- Operate and maintain survey equipment, including total stations, GPS units, and levels.
- Conduct field surveys for land use, construction, and infrastructure projects.
- Stake out work sites with precision, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Record and verify survey data with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Assist in preparing site plans, profiles, and related documentation.
- Conduct site reconnaissance to identify and resolve potential challenges.
- Work independently in the field, managing assigned tasks responsibly.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with the Special Areas Safety Program and all reporting requirements.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in geomatics, civil engineering technology, or a related field is an asset.
- Previous experience in survey work or familiarity with survey equipment is required.
- Ability to stake out work sites independently and interpret project plans.
- Strong understanding of survey principles and techniques.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); familiarity with CAD or GIS software is an asset.
- Ability to learn and use specialized survey software and equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift/carry equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record (6 demerits or less).
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Important Considerations for Applicants
- This is a designated safety sensitive position and mandatory pre-employment drug testing will be conducted on all newly hired employees
- This position will be working outside completing fieldwork in rural-remote areas throughout Special Areas 2, 3 & 4
