SUMMER STUDENT POSITION – Range Management

Term Seasonal Summer Student Range Management Position Available for 2025

  • Hourly rates starting at $22.7341 depending upon experience and education
  • In addition to the hourly rate of pay, earnings include
  • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings as holiday pay
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings as annual vacation pay
  • 40-hour work week (Monday through Friday) – overtime may be expected as part of this role

Workplace: Special Areas Board based from Hanna, AB with work assignments throughout Special Areas 2,3 & 4

Enjoy a challenging and rewarding summer position that will have you working in our Range Management department during the late spring and summer months. This opportunity will provide valuable work experience in a rewarding and invigorating work environment.

Description: Key Duties will include:

  • Extensive field travel to often remote work locations
  • Conducting vegetation inventories in grassland environments
  • Assessment of rangeland and riparian health
  • Compile and interpret technical data including database management
  • Delivering the Special Areas Safety Program and all reporting requirements
  • Other duties as required

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of post-secondary education in Agriculture/Environmental Sciences diploma or degree program
  • Strong knowledge in plant taxonomy and identification skills
  • Responsibility of working unsupervised in remote locations
  • Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, tact and discretion and use of good judgement
  • Physical capabilities to perform job duties and lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Microsoft Office computer skills with MS Outlook, Word, Excel programs
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS software would be considered an asset but not necessarily required
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract

  • This is a designated safety sensitive position and mandatory pre-employment drug testing will be conducted on all newly hired employees
  • This position will be working outside completing fieldwork in rural-remote areas throughout Special Areas 2, 3 & 4
